Legislative Accomplishments -
The following bills, geared toward improving NH's business climate, were passed during the 2011 Legislative Session:
• Large businesses that have lost millions during the recession: the net operating loss carry forward provision of the business profits tax has been increased from $1 million to $10 million. And a related law was passed extending the carry forward periods for the business enterprise tax credit against the business profits tax from 5 years to 10 years.
• Startups: New legislation allowing the Business Finance Authority to use up to $6 million in federal money to encourage lending to New Hampshire startups, either by guaranteeing a percentage of a lender’s losses, or matching loans directly. The goal is to loosen up venture capital funds and encourage institutional investing in NH businesses.
